But just because someone has an IHG branded CC (not available in a lot of countries) and earn points that way really isn't an indication of loyalty towards the brand whereas staying in an actual IHG hotel does.
Shouldn't the latter generate more rewards than the former?
They are talking about qualifying through
status points, which are not available unless you stay at the hotel (AFAIK). I qualify for Diamond on spend as well (need 120k status points or 40 nights for Diamond)
Only wrinkle is that you can purchase bonus status points when you make a reservation so the night -> status points relationship is not entirely 1:1
I think 150k status points for lounge access would be fair but then you are entering possible RA status. Don't think this will ever happen.
They need to revamp that top tier anyway so may be some changes.
