Hello Sabe59, it all depends on your priorities, and the answer isn’t that clear cut.

I fly a lot between Singapore and Sydney/Melbourne, a 7-8 hour sector. I found that I would rather choose economy on a full service carrier like SQ, or even QF and BA, than ScootPlus.

What I like about ScootPlus (Referring to ScootPlus on the 787) : the seat is large, with great recline compared to Y, like a PEY seat on a full service carrier. You also get decent hand luggage allowance, and you board and deplane first. What I don’t like about ScootPlus is that many of the 787’s are now very old, and the ScootPlus seats seem to show this wear and tear in a very obvious way. Also, the catering is frankly poor, and the 30MB internet is nearly useless. There is no IFE screen.

SQ Economy is probably the best Y out there, although I am a big fan of JL Economy as well. ANA Economy is pretty good too, but not as good as SQ. SQ has great catering, great IFE, complimentary unlimited internet for Krisflyer members. The planes are mostly very new too. SQ cabin service is hands down on a different level than Scoot. While Scoot staff are friendly enough, SQ cabin crew are far more polished, professional and generally treat passengers with much more care and warmth than their Scoot counterparts.

Earlier this year, I flew SIN-SYD in ScootPlus, on a 787 with very old seats and terrible catering, and was so disappointed that on my next two flights to Australia I chose to fly BA economy and then SQ Economy on SIN-SYD/SIN-MEL sectors, and had a much better experience overall.

Interestingly I actually had a decent experience flying Scoot economy on the SIN-MEL sector some time later — the plane was newer and maybe my expectations were also different.

So for me, if faced with the same decision, on SIN-HND, I might actually prefer economy on a full service carrier (I am also Krisflyer Gold / Star Gold, so i would also have lounge access, which is another factor).

Still, if the spaciousness of the seat is your main consideration, than ScootPlus gives you that.

My two cents worth. Cheers!
