Splitting a PNR is real, and if this was a “normal” ticket it would be easy to split and keep the RUC for yourself as is. But, since this involves the Amex Cert, it will take a knowledgeable/motivated agent to be able to split it and keep things intact. Not saying it’s impossible, but it will take some luck in getting that to happen. Let us know how it goes as it would be nice to have a recent datapoint on this.
If a reissued RUC gets cancelled, make sure and note the full certificate number as in order to reuse it, you’ll have to call in and manually read the number to the agent in order for them to see it’s still open - otherwise they will claim it’s closed. Have experienced that multiple times recently.

They won’t split the PNR on a companion cert. Otherwise companion could fly for $30 and primary get 100% voucher credit.
