Yes, it works, and like Platinum for live they are usually better. Although I think and have said many times to guest service that Marriott, Hilton, IHG or Hyatt are more generous with upgrades to suites.
Normally when they give me a good upgrade, whether it's at Melia, Hilton, Marriott... I spend more money at the hotel as a way of thanking them.
