Follow up - and credit where it is due:
Lurker Robert V. (above) was very helpful. I got connected with a manager who apologized and sent me points (already deposited into my account), and who also said he’d refund the $105 in destination fee to my CC (edit: this has been done too).
I consider the matter closed.
