Just checking if anyone here has had experience with dogs checked as excess baggage in QR , with a layover in DOH?
There's 4 layover options available, KUL to BRU with stop in DOH - ranging from 3 hours to 19 hours
According to QR, if the layover is in excess of 3 hours the dogs can get out of their crate and moved to a larger kennel . Judging by feedback I've read online I'm not sure if this is accurate (and most seems to be from before they opened their new animal facility earlier this year) .. the same page mentions that the limit is 32kg even though they handle up to 75kg apparently.
- Animals are allowed out of their kennels to walk and stretch
- Animals are observed for signs of sickness and stress
- Kennels are cleaned
- Dogs are walked
- Animals are provided a larger, more comfortable kennel during transit
- Food (if not provided by owner) is provided every 3-4 hours and only up to 2 hours before departure
- Water is changed every hour
I'm a bit undecided which option is the best - main concern is the dogs, I think it would be better for them IF they can get out of the crate a while and we spend the night in DOH. But if they just get left in there the whole duration I'd prefer to get the journey over and done with and only stop for 3 hours.
3/9 hour options are of course the most expensive, about £600 / pax more in Business Lite / P - but with 9 hours + need to factor in a hotel stay too (probably expensive airside, without having to leave the airport)
Does anyone have any recent experience, transiting through DOH with pets? I did try to call them of course to clarify but the agent didn't inspire much confidence
