As for OP I am glad they recovered and are presumably back home. Glad also that they took additional insurance as Staysure has decided not to cover flights bought using points so flights bought using Avios and a BA Companion voucher would not have been covered.
Not sure which travel insurance policies still do cover reward flights as most insurers seem to be excluding them.
