I had similar situation a few weeks ago, but I know why. My flight kept getting delayed so I switched to different one to get home. Once I got home, I received the same type of email as you, with 2 $15 meal vouchers and offer for free hotel. It was because the original flight I was booked on ended up getting delayed until the next day.
