What surprises me the most is why they weren't receptive to rebooking on SQ32 (or UA28, UA2) OR via LAX. Had seen a dp where someone on a canceled UA flight was rebooked on SQ (or vice versa) so I am sure that wouldn't be a problem unless ALL flights were full.
