Finished a 2 night stay here recently.

The service in this hotel is appalling. Arrived at the front desk around 1pm. There was this short hair lady behind the front desk. I said to her "Hi, i would like to check in". She looked at me, proceeded to continue typing on the computer. And walked away (to another computer) without saying a word. I just stood there in disbelief. Moments later, and older man came and he just stared at me. Again I said to him I would like to check in. He proceeded to do the check in procedure with little enthusiasm, like a grumpy grandpa. It seems like a common theme throughout my stay. Most of the staff don't smile or greet anyone (there were one or two exceptions). During breakfast, the host would take my ticket and bring me to my table without saying a word and just walked off.

I was in one of the renovated rooms and yeah it was pretty nice and spacious.

Breakfast was alright, pretty standard fare. There was a orange juicing machine which I loved.

The location is not terrible per-se but it's not convenient either. you will be relying on the shuttle bus a lot to get to kyoto station. There's a metro station nearby but that metro line isn't very useful and will require changes to other lines.

If you can get a good rate like I did, then it's an okay place to stay. But lower your expectations.
