I think officially it would be a no to transport costs reimbursement for self picking up bags at the airport as they are (only) supposed to send the bags to the address.
I once chose to pickup a delayed bag at MAD and asked if IB would pay my metro costs and they said no but did give a generous service recovery gesture for the whole ordeal.
Would it be a fuss to pick up the bags at NTE/MAD on Tue and bring them along to the UK? Or have IB re-route them directly to the UK?

Thank you so much for this. Happily all is well that ends well. I had an email this morning to tell me that my bags had arrived. I already knew that because I had put an air tag in a handbag that was inside one of the bags. We went back to Nantes and got everything back and although that took 3 hours of out lives that we will not get back, the important thing is that we and our bags are reunited safe and sound.
