When travelling on separate tickets with different carriers, you always need to plan the flights with sufficient times between flights to claim bags and re-check and eventually have proper visas to go landside.
Thank you for pointing this out. It is something I have considered as well and viable on my itinerary when connecting in HKG. In case I do not succeed checking it through, my plan is to ask the PX transfer desk at E1 at HKG if they can pull my bag and check it to BNE. Tried that twice before with PAL.
