Something similar happened to me recently on a CE Athens-London booking. I didn't realise I hadn't paid an RFS price due to an ongoing glitch with the website. When I cancelled I got a lower refund than I expected. Only a few quid so didn't pursue . But in this case you're out of pocket so they should owe you the difference
