Is that only for status pax?

I recently booked LAX-BOS in main for myself, and in a separate record I booked LAX-BOS in BE for two non-status pax (same flight, but I needed flexibility). I was given upgrade offers to J and F, but they were not. (Ultimately I was upgraded for free to J.)
