Correct on the swap and the gap between AA and UA at ORD at the present is the largest it has ever been. Gates 60-63 are now controlled by AS. There are three common use gates at T6 at the moment and UA is trying to get their head in the door with them, specifically the widebody capable gates. UA clearly wants those widebody capable gates for themselves and AC for any widebody aircraft they fly into LAX. UA is not necessarily short of gates at LAX, but of widebody gates. That is why the $mi$ek trade for gates 60-63 for gates that ended up in the hands of Alaska was so dumb. He should have held onto them to get the widebody capable T6 gates instead.
