Just a random check of LHR MEL in J has same tax of £507 O/W on both BA and QR. QR has advantage of seats being available earlier than BA...so on high demand routes like Oz, it is better to use QR. I have just booked 2 award tickets for next September/October. Also taxes out of DUB (€295) are much cheaper..handy for me living in NI. Transferring between your BA and QR and visa versa accounts is instantaneous.
