as a plat, why not always book basic economy?
Sorry if this is a naive question or one that has been answered many times before (I did a cursory search but didn't find anything).
I'm a lifetime platinum, and I have a Citi Exec AA mastercard. I don't fly domestic all that much anymore, but I typically book in "main cabin" rather than "basic economy" because I thought that I couldn't pick my exit row seat in basic and would have to pay for luggage.
But today by accident I discovered that I can indeed choose seats even though I'm in basic due to my platinum status. And my Exec mastercard gives me one free checked bag for myself and one for a companion. Ok, so there are some differences if I cancel or change a flight, but I seldom do that. Therefore, my question is this: Is there any reason why I would not always book domestic flights in the main cabin under the "basic economy" price category?
thanks
