My friend booked a flight YVR-NRT ---- 3 hour layover HND-ITM with AC

I wonder since there's only 3 hour transit from NRT to HND, he should need to clear immigration and take the bags and go from NRT to HND. In case he misses the flight from HND to ITM, does NH reprotect them for the next available HND-ITM flight or is the flight cancelled?
