Is AA Skywest/American Eagle operationally worse than AA?

I’m an infrequent AA flyer, but tried them again today due to the route needed and the fact they gave me temporary platinum pro status.

Well, my flight (DFW-SAF) was delayed by several hours today. While I understand delays happen on all airlines, it just felt that nobody cared at all:

- the delay wasn’t announced until ~10 minutes before boarding, after we hiked to E gates.

- it was a rolling delay, first delayed by 1.5 hours, then by 4 hours, then adjusted to 3.5 hours.

- when the delay was announced, right before boarding, nobody was staffed at the gate.

- I went to the customer service desk and nobody was there either. No sign or indication if/when they’d ever be back. Felt like it was very much “you are on your own, good luck!”

- now, the flight is scheduled to board in 15 minutes and they have no staffed a gate agent yet.

In sum, beyond just delays (which always suck), I just sort of got the distinct impression that AA could care less about a ~4 hour delay. The only silver lining could be perhaps that “SkyWest as American Eagle” is operationally distinct and regular AA?

I’m not a fanboy of other carriers, but anecdotally my experiences on AA are quite poor
