assumed that the ultimate source of knowledge was the FMS (I know historically, at least, some IFE systems got data like altitude/speed/heading via one-way link from the FMS) which also made the amount of time it sometimes takes the WiFi portal to update to the correct flight info (vs displaying the inbound flight or something like ORD-ORD) and why IFE sometimes has been reported to reflect a diversion before any announcement is made.
But the quoted post has me questioning that assumption -- if the FMS had the wrong/opposite origin and destination set wouldn't there be other issues?
