This makes sense and has been my experience. Recall having to pack a jacket just for Le CInq ages ago, great restaurant though. I can see it as a sign of respect to the decor and staff. Now that frequently city visits like this are mainly stopovers for an adventure somewhere i have no time for strict dress codes, makes packing too complicated. For a hotel lobby etc, with people taking red eye flights I can't really see them expecting guests to show up finely dressed, that is just pretentious to another level
That’s actually a main reason I prefer to stay at hotels over private clubs. Too many of those still have strict dress codes even for public spaces. I don’t want to feel that I have to hurry to my room or take a back entrance because I’m underdressed.
