Note that (assuming both of your flights are on a single PNR) your checked baggage can be tagged "through" to JFK when you check in at GIG. That means that after you claim your checked baggage at MIA and submit to Customs inspection, you should then be able to just drop your already-tagged baggage at a "re-check" counter located just past Customs.
thank you. Same PNR. GE/Precheck. Connection 1h54m. Probably pretty safe, especially considering it's a midday MIA-JFK with many more flights later that day?
