I am not sure that the noisy and slow ATR plane is a good argument, but maybe for you.

Personally, both airlines are nothing special or interesting, just to fly from A to B.
If the price is in favor of PG, why not ?
I agree with you about flying which has the better pricing. PG has ridiculous prices most of the time and the lounge ( Miracle ) at DMK is better than the economy lounge of PG in BKK. I hate the ATR and would never fly it if I had a choice and yes I have flown the ATR plenty of times and even on PG.
