I called the 0800, they told me that both flights in business are half full already, but when i tried to select the seat when pretending to purchase the J class tickets, the whole business are free to select seats apart from two "award looking" seats being grey out. I think that's weired!
AirNZ (and all airlines) block a few seats in each cabin to allow Load Control flexibility to manage 'on the day' issues - such as moving pax if a seat is broken, last minute staff travel, accepting disputed pax from other flights....
These are 'blocked' (all gray) rather than 'occupied' (gray with head silhouettes).
