No idea about the current state of FT/lounge/seats but the EI check-in/bag-drop has always been:
1 - Quiet
2 - Pleasant and reasonable
for me.
Does have the same "no-one around until 2h before" as BA, but at 2h before there's never been more than 1 or 2 people there.
