Forget the kiosks and just use the GE phone app. Did this at LAX (1st U.S. air entry where there was GE available since pre-COIVD and was through in less than 15 seconds (just had to flick through as we had two of us on one phone).
The app doesn't work if you're on a visa. The kiosks don't work anymore either, myself and various people I know who had their TN or H1B on their profile and have it showing as a COA in the app cannot get it to work by kiosk (puts you in as B1) or app (submission fails).
I guess one hack might be to intentionally enter as B1 in the app, then contact CBP to fix your I-94 after the fact. No idea if it works though, and very sketchy.
