Interesting perspective, but I will argue that it's gotten out of control when what used to be totally discretionary on the basis of good service being provided at a rate of 10% has crept to an automatic expectation of 15%, then 18% then 20% and now in many cases you are presented with a payment machine that is pre-set to 22% or even higher...crazy if you ask me...but it's JMHO.
