Edit: got downgraded to YYZ to Y on a paid J ticket, no internet on the 7M8, and I’ll miss the YVR SS, but otherwise it is fine. Guess if you fly frequent enough you will have once or twice like this.
My question: what is the compensation I am entitled to?
To confirm, you were originally scheduled to fly BOS-YUL-YVR-SYD all in J and instead you flew BOS-YUL-YYZ-SYD. Except for YUL-YYZ all of the flights were still in J and you were on AC33 the same day you were originally scheduled for (ie no delay to the point of arrival)?
If that's the case, youll get a refund of the price difference between what you paid and Y in proportion of the mileage that you were downgraded for (~3% of the distance), so, pretty much squat. In my own experience, the refund is pretty standard but I've never been given compensation.
Maybe ask and see if they'll kick you a discount code or miles or a voucher? Doubtful but no harm in trying.
