My experience has been to simply call their call centre (Skype is great for this kinda stuff) and you should be able to get it sorted very easily.
Don't expect anything in terms of additional perks, but they may greet you on board personally.
Don't forget to stand up and queue early at the door on a Chinese plane as it's landing, so you are amongst the first to get to the baggage belts.
