I’ve never had an issue being compensated for any issues before and we are talking maybe 2 over the last 15 years.
Is it common to have a request for compensation denied because I waited 4 days to open my golf travel bag and look inside?
For domestic travel, claims must be reported within 24 hours, so I am not surprised they denied your claim and unfortunately, you will probably not have any recourse, even a goodwill gesture. DL has become very consistent in their application of rules for baggage claims. That being said, even as DL's contract of carriage has been updated over the years, the rules they cite from the contract of carriage for denying claims have not changed. You might find that the rules they cite no longer exist and if that is true, don't bother with the back and forth, because DL will dig their feet in. Go straight to the DOT and file a DOT complaint.
