It's always funny to me when a thread like this comes up and people post that this is "tipping culture out of control" or the like, as if it hasn't been considered good etiquette to tip hotel housekeeping for decades, and hotels haven't long provided tip envelopes for this purpose.
Indeed, FTers have been complaining about tipping expectations for decades....

You may hate tipping or think you shouldnt be expected to do it, but to suggest the expectation (as opposed to this way of providing a cashless method to tip) is some newfangled development is counterfactual.
