Will United look after us if we miss a "risky connection" in FRA?

My wife and I are going to Venice in November. The most convenient flight looks to be IAD -> FRA -> VCE, with FRA-> VCE on Lufthansa Edit: this would all be booked on one ticket from United.
However, the connection in Frankfurt is listed as a "risky connection" at 1 hour.
If we miss this connection because of e.g. a late arrival of the UAL flight, will United (or Lufthansa) look after us, e.g. hotel, booking on next flight,
or will we be on our own because we chose to take a risky connection?

We're going to a conference, but our planned arrival is a couple of days ahead, so arriving one day later wouldn't be too bad.

FWIW, we're both EU citizens.

Thanks,
