The facilitators of this scheme have replied (at 2 in the morning UK) that they would suggest getting in touch with BA for clarification since it was an article in their magazine. Which I will choose to interpret as "we had no idea about this until you told us, BAEC came up with this scheme but didn't work with us to make it possible". My interpretation could be wrong, but the usual sources know where to find me.
