Long time listener, first time caller.
We got an AMEX Platinum Card in March of 2023, simply to work our way to the Centurion Card.
Last year our spend was just over $1m, this year we are around $650k so far. Most purchases are luxury goods, but we put everything on the card.
Is it really totally random? Should I be calling and asking about the membership? With the threshold being 250k/year (rumored) I thought we’d be in the clear after a year.
The $250K spend was based on an old published spend requirement from 2009. The spend threshold is not disclosed, but your stated spend is in the threshold for the personal Centurion. Is your Platinum Card personal or business?
Note they look at other factors like overall credit, how long you been a cardmember, etc. Your stated assets you disclosed in the application process could also make a difference. If you by chance have a relationship with Goldmans, Morgan Stanley, or Charles Schwab you can get a referral.
I would contact Amex and let them know you want the card. 877-877-0987.
