I haven't taken the hop-on/hop-off bus in quite some time, but keep in mind their stop on Long St near Green Market Square is a crime hotspot. Of course, I've walked there in the past but it is considered somewhat unsafe even during daytime. Most other stops of the bus are generally fine during daytime.
Thanks for your twopence. Is the HR actually in-or-adjacent-to, not-the-best neighborhood(s), or some version of that? If so, I think I am understanding now.
(There are many cities throughout the world where a property is located in a non-great neighborhood. Either the neighborhood was already like that before the property was built, or, it got worse after the fact. Sometimes it's simply because a CBD-hotel is warranted, but it so happens the CBD is not the safest--by the standards of that city. And I acknowledge there exist tourist areas which are simultaneously dodgy, as some might say about Times Square; they're not outright-unsafe, but one should be a bit mindful.)
Furthermore, is the evening-recommendation (post 8pm near HR) just for visitors, or for locals too?
(I can think of streets that I would ok a local to take because they probably know what to be looking for and how to behave. But I can also think of streets that I wouldn't even recommend a local take. And these same streets could be decently-ok in the daytime.)
