I agree the apparently concerning bit is crossing the very end of that runway. I’m not sure I’d flame the crew. To be pilots of the A380 you are experienced and mistakes happen - it shows that the crew is human. How many car drivers have never gone the wrong way and ended up on a one way street facing the wrong way or whatever?
The key is understanding why it happened and putting in place learnings so that the chances of it happening again are reduced. IE next time, what would we do differently? Perhaps that route is the normal route and the construction meant there was a different route this time, etc. Everyone stayed calm and figured out how to resolve the situation. It was reported and will be followed up. Luckily the only things bruised were egos (as it were, not saying there were any).
The problem can sometimes be overfamiliarity - oh it’s lovely Boston, we’ve all been here before we know the drill right?
BA have had other issues in past - Joburg where the 747 crew missed the turning and the wing crashed into a building as a result - factors around signage definitely did not help. There was that departure out in the Caribbean a while ago from the wrong intersection. Not unique to BA either.
Human factors is a really fascinating area. People sometimes make mistakes. This is where tech can help - ie AI perhaps to flag in red “NON-STANDARD TAXI ROUTE” or whatever.
