Hi,

Which airlines are you flying with and when please?
As there are a number of terminals at JFK so after arriving and clearing customs you may need to take the skytrain ( landside ) to your terminal for your domestic flight and recheck in so may need to allow extra time
Also at certain times of the year queues to check in may be longer ( and ithe 2nd airline may have a 1hr cut off time for bags which only gives you 2.2 hrs in reality)
Having a separate ticket adds a bit of risk as the 2nd carrier may not have an obligation to protect you should the first flight be delayed enough to cause a missed flight
That said, 3.2 hours all in should be doable if everything is ok
