Interesting ... AFAIK the only way to do that on United is to go through LHR. And I feel as though most of the time that's either really inconvenient or expensive. My strategy is to try to connect through SFO on the way home. Yes, the upgrade possibilities into SFO are worse, but I prefer the quick hop to LAX or BUR to the cross-country slog from UA's other hubs.
