when I booked EWR connection it was a 757 to LAX with no possibility of 2-side. Now they’ve changed to 777 and I got 2-side seats in the 4th row from back.
All other EWR to LAX that evening are 757’s (no 2 sides) and from IAD are 737’s (no 2 sides).
Generally, the ~8a LAX->IAD is a widebody and the ~6p IAD->LAX is a widebody. Usually that's the only one. Sometimes those flight times are narrowbodies, but usually if there is going to be a widebody on that route, it is only those times/directions. I have assumed that it is those specific flights to align with the European flights in both direction.
I can't comment on LAX-EWR and what times have widebodies and which ones don't.
Separate from all of that, I prefer connecting in IAD over EWR.
