I don't think migrating to the Netherlands was a mistake. It's a great country and I also have a Rother hiking book for the Netherlands and have discovered many beautiful things with it. The country is full of jewels undiscovered by tourists - old towns, national parks, the amazing islands off the north coast, the Rhine and Maas rivers.
The problem with Switzerland is that many of the hikes demand a level of fitness that I find hard to keep up with and the endless ups and downs in the mountains can be truly knackering.
Oh yes, the country has a lot of its own treasures, for sure.
But for actual hiking, it is my opinion, you need elevation. So when the mood strikes me to do some, I drive to Ardennes....
