Holiday Inn Express Évora, Portugal
Brand new hotel open only two weeks at the time of the stay just outside the city wall at this historic town. We struggled to find anything wrong. Surprised it is branded a HIX because half of the hotel is a lovely restored historic building where they are going to open a destination restaurant with a chef who worked at Michelin star restaurants. Walking distance to the historic centre and tourist sites. Great breakfast (for a HIX) included scrambled eggs and bacon alongside the various cold cuts, cheeses, pastries, cereals, fruits etc. Strangely the scrambled eggs were powdery on day one but properly creamy on day two. There’s even a pool here which is probably better in the summer but they said they charge €15 per person to use it - a policy I cannot see sticking. Rooms, for a two week old hotel, in the new wing are standard HIX and include a safe. Ours had a balcony and many seem to have such an outside sitting space. Bargain, quality, HIX that we will revisit when the restaurant opens.
