BA356 on 9 Oct 2024

Hi Folk

I was booked on BA356 on 09 Oct 2024.
  • We boarded on time (almost empty flight)
  • After about 10 minutes of the doors closing, the pilot announced a long delay (2 hours) due to weather conditions in Nice.
  • A little while later, he said the flight had been cancelled
  • A while later, as we were waiting for the bridge, he said the flight had been re-instated with only half an hour more to wait
  • A while later, he said the flight had actually been cancelled.
  • I was rebooked on BA352 that same evening, which landed around 23.30
I filed a claim under EU consumer rights, but it was declined as BA claimed the original flight was delayed due to weather.

Now I'm not sure that's right, because I think the flight was cancelled after it had been cleared to take off - it feels to me like BA made an operational decision not to fly an almost empty aircraft and to rebook us on another almost empty aircraft.

Thoughts welcome
