Well I may have made a dumb mistake…
Flying from New York to Tucson next week. Was originally scheduled to connect through PHX, however I got a little bored and looked for a more exciting option. Ended up switching to JFK-LAX-TUS for transcon F with a 53min connection. Thought it would be easy enough as the JFK-LAX is usually on time or early (first flight of the day)
Unfortunately I completely forgot about the Eagles Nest, and it looks like that’s where the TUS flight leaves from.
So if my inbound is on time, what are the odds I make this connection?
I wouldn’t mind ponying up for 5star if it means it greatly increases my chances. Thoughts?
Echoing others...I would not worry about this connection at all. 90-95% chance you make this. There's a lot of padding on the JFK-LAX flights, so you don't have to worry about winds unless you're traveling on those 1-2 bad weeks deep in winter, and there is minimal JFK traffic at 6am. In the worst case you miss it, you can have AA route you LAX-PHX-TUS if that's faster. But I would take the LAX routing over PHX routing any day especially at 6am where I'd want to get a few hours of sleep.
It's more likely the flight arrives substantially early and you can even pop into the flagship lounge on arrival. I would aim to start walking to the eagle shuttle gate ~55mins before departure.
