Military and all USG employees travel on GSA City Pair Fares at contracted rates for the fiscal year (FY). Sometimes the GSA city-pair fare is "cheap" for a given city pair and sometimes it's quite pricey. I am one of the travel reviewer/approvers in my org and we frequently have people going to Washington, DC and the DAY-DCA-DAY ticket this fiscal year is nearly $1K round trip (with no capacity restricted discount fares).
Now despite having the new nonstop, there's no guarantee AA will get the GSA contract in the next FY when it bids again so that could be interesting too to see how greedy AA gets with its bid on this route. .
Interestingly, AA already holds the GSA award for DCA-SAT (at $200 for unrestricted fares and $92 for restricted). The United fare is 3x as high (out of Dulles).
Does AA get to rebid or re-price this pair since the old contracted rate was predicated on a connection routing?
