Looks like this is an overall negative change for everyone that doesn't fly Alaska often.
Biggest beneficiary is award travel community. People pumping millions of MR now pushing to AS for premium partner awards. If you max out the 30k eqm from cc spend, you'd only 2 roundtrip J trips at the 10k mile / 85k band to hit 75k status. Wouldn't take many EC offers to generate the 340k MR required to earn OWE status.
