It was due to stupendous stupidity on my part, but the airline rebooked me for free. I'm guessing that the 90 minutes for Dubai is intended to cover passengers who have to go to another terminal. Guessing.

I certainly have no expectation that an airline will compensate me if I can't find a gate when there is ample time to do so (e.g. hours) including a lack of huge queues to wait in if security must be passed.
