Agree, it's such a sad situation. Most of the mid-to-higher-end Marriott properties in NYC (excl Ritz) charge a destination fee, particularly the ones in midtown to Central Park. Unfortunately that's the area I am looking at and even more unfortunately, I am going to be paying for at least 5 nights! I am already prepared to include that charge into the entire hotel rate as consideration if I want to stick with Marriott, esp as a Plat member. I will book it through Amex FHR though, so am not sure if this even changes anything at all. My other choice is Essex House where at least, there is a decent lounge for use, but the rates are a little high for a space as big as the Midtown.
