All kidding aside, you could argue that this is one of the commercial reasons for SQ to have the PPS program in the first place — to encourage folks to spend $$$ on their premium seats.
That and their route network which helps, prioritising high yield (some would say vanilla) destinations, particularly for long haul.

it was an overnighter on the old 777-300, so I at least escaped the old angled wedgie seat! Good point re PPS...I understand SQ's motivations. But boy was it nice on CX...used to do HKG-JFK 3-4 times a year and to Europe maybe twice and I must have been op-uped J to F around close to 70% of the time (edit to add maybe the percentage was less...but it certainly a regular occurrence!)...I got very used to that familiar beep and red light upon boarding!
