Wanted to add to the knowledge base about KM with a quick report about a recent MUC-MLA trip in Business.
On the plus side, flight attendants were great, food was tasty (but portions were small), and they poured generous amounts of Duval Leroy (although lukewarm).
The major downside is an awful website; it was impossible to do anything after purchase. Couldn't check in online on the outbound, couldn't change seats, nothing. This caused me to check in with LH at MUC. They are no longer partners (as weak as the partnership was before), but the SEN/*G line was happy to handle my check-in anyway. On the return, started online check-in, but it directed me to a seat selection page, which was missing some rows (including ours) and froze. Checked in at the KM counter, where an apologetic agent weighed our bags and forced me to check in my 11.2kg carryon (10kg is the limit). Fortunately, our fare included 20kgs of checked baggage, otherwise this would apparently have been chargeable at €10 per kilo (as I found out the night before, when I overheard someone's phone call at the Westin Malta club lounge).
I bought tickets at a reasonable rate (under €300 RT) in April. Our fare included seats (including row 1), 20kgs of luggage, and lounge access (at least I'm pretty certain of that). In MUC, walked into the LH business lounge, scanned our BPs, and we got a green light. In MLA, the lounge dragon insisted that we had bought a Business Basic fare, which doesn't incude lounge access. She wanted to give me the runaround ("you can talk to a KM agent at gate 2"), but instead, we just waited downstairs for 45 minutes. The email confirmation doesn't say anything about lounge access, but when I searched Business Basic fares for upcoming dates, I found that they don't include row 1 seating and luggage. So there's a fair chance that KM changed rules since we bought our tickets and we were cheated out of our lounge access.
MUC-MLA. Tasty, but no menus were provided. This looks like a slightly larger portion of the starter in downinit's report above. I was somewhat surprised that there wasn't a hot meal, but I guess the AMS/LHR flights you were on take a lot longer, and of course on the MUC routes, KM is competing with LH's Tasting Heimat, which sets a very low bar.
MLA-MUC: Menu provided
MLA-MUC: Drinks menu
MLA-MUC: The main course was tasty, but rather skimpy. I'm inclined to say that KM bread was the best I've ever had on any business class flight.
