If the underlying fare is FCOD eligible (i.e. Economy Plus or Business, and point to point to and from the exact same airports) then you can still change it even if it's a BA Holiday. I have now done so a couple of times, each time by phoning the duty helpline you get texted just before the start of your trip.
I can't be 100% sure that BAHs book into Economy Plus but I would be surprised if they didn't, since they always include checked luggage, with no HBO option being provided.

i booked the cheapest - but most unsocial times - for xmas this year; but with a view to get my last 80 tps for silver and fcod to a better time.
question: how many J seats tend to be available on LHR-MAN / MAN-LHR - I hope to fcod?
Impossible to predict unless you can tell us the date. Even then it is crystal ball territory. The biggest influence is whether you are on a flight likely to be used by connecting passengers as the majority of people on the MAN flights are connecting.
06:55 departure from LHR - probably going to be very quiet. 18:00 departure? Much less so.
